Third KLEOS medical education institute opens in China
KLEOS held its first course on June 11-12 at the newly opened Beijing education institute – the third medical education facility from Smith & Nephew in China. The Beijing center – the largest of the three facilities to date – opened on May 25. Twenty-seven surgeons from all regions of China attended the course on advanced total hip arthroplasty, which was instructed by Professor Kou Boulong, from the People’s Hospital, Beijing.

KLEOS launches Japan annual cadaveric meeting
The KLEOS Japan first Knee and Hip Cadaveric Meeting took place in Sydney, Australia, from June 8-11. The meeting, which will be an annual event, was the first opportunity for Smith & Nephew to introduce KLEOS to Japanese surgeons. KLEOS, the medical education service from Smith & Nephew, will be fully launched in Japan in 2011.

KLEOS offers AOA-accredited fellowships
KLEOS, medical education from Smith & Nephew, continues to demonstrate a significant commitment to education through their fellowship program. A series of KLEOS fellowships within the fields of reconstruction and trauma have now been accredited by the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA).

First Mediterranean Hip Meeting supports local surgeons’ needs
More than 220 participants from thirteen countries attended the first Mediterranean Hip Meeting, developed and organized by KLEOS. The meeting was held in Athens, Greece from April 15-17, and focussed on ‘Contemporary solutions in total hip arthroplasty’.

KLEOS holds its first fellows reunion
The first annual KLEOS fellows reunion was held this year at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting on 11th March. Invitations were sent out to Smith & Nephew supported fellows to participate in the evening event, which will become an annual event at the AAOS meeting.

KLEOS establishes training center in Mendoza, Argentina
KLEOS is proud to be partnering with the Hospital Central de Mendoza, in Argentina, and the local medical community to establish a local training center for surgeons. This prestigious center will train orthopedic surgeons in the latest surgical techniques, with plans to extend this to training in advanced wound management.

94° National Congress of the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Trauma
With an intense scientific program of lectures, instructional courses, symposia and live surgeries, the 94th National congress of Orthopedics and Trauma was held in Milan, at the Milano Convention Centre, from 7th to 11th November 2009. The event registered an exceptional affluence, Italian doctors crowded the exhibition area since the first day, even before the scientific sessions opening.

First KLEOS course in Latin America
KLEOS Latin America trained 42 surgeons last month during its first course in the region. The surgical skills course was staffed by 16 faculty members from Argentina and Brazil and was held at the excellent teaching facilities of the Austral Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
