KLEOS Latin America trained 42 surgeons last month during its first course in the region. The surgical skills course was staffed by 16 faculty members from Argentina and Brazil and was held at the excellent teaching facilities of the Austral Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina

The course on Surgical Approaches to Internal Fixation and Osteosynthesis was led by Dr Carlos M. Autorino and Dr Ivan F. Rubel. It included surgical approaches to the clavicle, humerus, elbow, wrist, pelvis and acetabulum, femur, knee, tibia and ankle. The program provided didactic presentations on the latest thinking in the treatment of orthopaedic trauma followed by anatomical and surgical demonstrations and hands-on cadaveric practical labs using Smith & Nephew internal fixation systems.

The course was offered in collaboration with the Argentinean Association of Orthopaedics and Trauma. It marks a successful start for KLEOS in Latin America and will be followed by an expanding program of educational events and services specific to the region.
